My license here in California 40 years ago consisted of riding around a pretty small circle in the parking lot. Sounds easy but I took it on a Norton cafe racer. Not so easy.

Thanks awesome write up. I was at the KTM dealer the other day and you are absolutely right. This is a true sportbike that just so happens to be tame enough for beginners and not just a boring beginner bike.

they need to make this bike with the 690 motor.

That would literally be the perfect bike. 70ish hp and under 350lbs wet would makes this an absolute blast.

ehhhh ALMOST. I could see a 700CC single being annoying on the freeway.

did you ride the RC390 on the freeway? how were the RPMs around 100km/h

ofc I took it on the freeway.

I dont rememeber EXACTLY where it was turning over, but between 4-6k there was a nasty buzz through the footpegs.

Good luck! Finally pulled my R6 out of the garage and rode last night and today. Itching for quitting time so I can ride home in some nice 70 degree weather, instead of the chilly 40-50 I rode in this morning.

No way that new 2016 690 motor is smoother than my SV, fucking witchcraft.

i dont beleive that, the SV is pretty fucking smooth.

I have absolutely no complaints about the smoothness of the SV, but I twice tried to re-start a running 2016 Duke 690 because it had so little vibes at idle (bad habit picked up from years of bikes without tachs). This same smoothness translates through the entire rev range. Like I said, witchcraft, I’d tour on one without a second thought.

hmmm...I need to get on a Duke 690 then.....

If they put that engine into the Husky 701 supermoto I’d own one right now despite my pledge that I’ll never buy a new vehicle. I love the Duke, but the SV is 95% the bike (weight, power, suspension (after gsxr swap)) for 25% the cost.

Ermmm....it pretty much IS the same motor.

No, it doesn’t have the secondary balancer shaft from the 2016 duke LC4 which is the reason the dukes run so smooth. Usually with KTM the duke gets the newest Lc4 then it trickles down to the other models in subsequent model years. There is also a well known lifter issue on the 2012+ LC4 than many believe has been addressed on the 2016 duke LC4.

pretty much != is the same.

oh well, i just see it as: buy husky, run motor ragged, replace with latest LC4 is need be.

I was under the impression that it was not a subtle change and it includes a new casing and very few interchangeable parts (they’ve always called their engines “LC4" for some reason)

I’m planning to wait a year for the 690 enduro to get it in 2017 and hope it transfers over to the Husky lines as well.

Honestly, I’ll probably convert the DR-Z back to dirt mode and let the Husky replace the SV. I’ve tasted the supermoto kool-aid, and it is good...
